Reasons for Proposed Sale, Advantages and Disadvantages
Reason:
Burnley Road Academy leases the field from Calderdale Council. Calderdale would like to purchase the small section marked in red on the photograph above, in order to create a new link path and cycleway between the main road and the canal. The aim is to create a pleasant access route for pedestrians and cyclists away from busy traffic and engine fumes.
Area Included:
The land concerned is at the far end of the field in an unused area, overgrown with brambles and nettles - highlighted in red on the photograph above. It can also be seen in the hashed section to the left of the purple dotted line on the plan. The dots indicate the propsed line for the new fence.
Benefits
- We believe this proposal will be of benefit to the local community, as it will provide a healthy, safe area for walking and cycling away from busy traffic.
- It makes good use of an unusable stretch of land.
- This section of field is full of nettles/brambles that encroach onto the main playing area. It is currently unmanageable and unsafe for the children to go near. Building the linkway and putting up a new fence will make the area safer for our children.
Disadvantages
Wildlife may be affected when the brambles/nettles are removed.
Please note:
This should not cause disadvantage to:
- the children at Burnley Road Academy or the local footbal club, Hebden Bridge Saints, who play at the weekend, as it is a small unused section of the field away from the play area, football pitch and forest/habitat area.
- those in local schools as they have their own fields and never play here.
