Autumn 1 - 2025-26

Welcome back!

The children have settled back into life at Burnley Road Academy brilliantly! They are adapting to the new changes of staying in the same classroom with Reception! They are also adapting to the new routines of the classroom. I am so proud of them all.

Spring 2 - 2026

Welcome back! Here is a quick run down of all the fantastic things that we are going to be learning about this half term.

English - Hansel and Gretel - The Candy House. The Extrodinary life of Mary Seacole. The children will be learning about Mary Seacole and the adventures that she encounted.

Maths - White Rose Maths - we will be continuing on following the scheme.

Art - Monochromatic art - Does abstract Art mean anything?

History - Healthcare and Medical Science - Which pionnaring women have shaped healthcare and medical science?

PE - Send and Receive - The children will begin playing various games using different equipment.

Mytholmroyd Fire Station

We visited Mytholmroyd Fire Station to learn all about what a firefighter does. The children had a great time learning the names of the different equipment that they use, they had a chance to sit in the fire truck and they got to squirt water using the fire hose.

Summer 1

Welcome back after a lovely Easter break! This half term promises to be a busy and exciting one, with lots of engaging learning opportunities ahead.

In Maths, we will be continuing our White Rose programme, which the children are really enjoying. Please remember to log in to NumBots and TTRockstars regularly to help develop quick recall of key maths facts.

Our English work will be centred around the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children will use this familiar tale as inspiration to develop and extend their own writing skills.

In Science, our topic is plants. We will be learning to name a variety of plants and exploring the school grounds to discover what is growing around us, as well as understanding how our environment supports plant growth.

We will also be starting our DT unit, where we will investigate which plants might help Jack stay strong!

This is just a small snapshot of the many wonderful things we will be learning about this half term.

Phonics Screening Check
The children will continue practising reading both real and nonsense words in preparation for the Phonics Screening Check in June. Please continue to support your child at home. Practice papers will be sent home regularly for you to work through together. Thank you for your support with this.
