Autumn 1 - Look at me!
Welcome back!
We have had a brilliant start back to the year. The children have been adapting to some changes within the unit and they are doing an amazing job! Foundation Stage has been joined by Year 1 children. The children are settling into their new routine and amazing everyone with their hard work!
This half term, the Nurserey and Reception children will be learning all about themselves! They will be creating pictures of themselves and learning who is in their family! Alongside this we will be learning all about the season of AUTUMN! We will be getting outside and exploring our wonderful outdoor area and gathering resources to create some fabulous art work!
Autumn 2 - Celebrations
This half term Reception and Nursery will be looking at Celebrations! They will be learning about lots of festivals and celebrations and how different people around the world celebrate them. We begun by looking at Bonfire Night, the children enjoyed learning the story of what Guy Fawkes tried to do and why we celebrate this night. We then loooked at Remembrance Day and the children enjoyed learning about what soldiers have done and continue to do for our country. Next we will begin looking at Birthdays/weddings and christenings. We will end this term with CHRISTMAS!
The children have been working incredibly hard learning the songs for our Christmas Play 'Everyone loves a Baby'. We will begin to practise the play in the hall, on the stage! Our Christmas play will take place on Wednesday 10th December at 10am and 2pm.
Spring 1 - 'Something magical can happen when you read a book…'
Our topic this half term is basked on books. ‘Something magical can happen when you read a book…’ We will carefully choose stories each week with different themes to foucs on. The children will learn lots of key vocabulary surrounding the books. They will also engage in different activities linked to the events or characters in the stories.
We also have some exciting days planned in for this half term, we have a Wild Science Day, Dave from Skip2Bfit, Dance Day with Laura, Bikeability for Reception and lots, lots more!

Summer 1 - 'Down on the Farm'
This half term our topic was ‘Down on the farm’. The children have learnt all about farm animals, the names of baby animals, the role of the farmer, what grows on a farm and lots more. As well as learning all about farm animals we went on our school trip to ‘Hesketh Farm’. We had a great day at the farm, we got to have a tractor ride, feed the lambs, walk around the paddock, collect the eggs, stroke the guinea pigs and lots more. The children loved seeing all the animals and asking lots of questions about the animals. We painted all the different animals that you may find on a farm and then created a beautiful display of this in our classroom. We read lots of farm stories, some of our favourites were, ‘Farmer Duck, ‘What the Ladybird heard’ and ‘Farmyard Hullabaloo.’
Summer 2 - 'In my imagination...'
‘In my imagination’ is our topic for the final term. The children have been exploring castles, knights, princesses, monsters, aliens, pirates, superheroes and lots more! The children have been listening to lots of stories and then using these stories to create their own. They have made castles using junk modelling materials and painted monsters! They have been re-telling their own stories using puppets and small world characters. With this being our last term together, we have also been working on transition and moving on to our next chapter of school life!
Sports Day 2024
The children had an amazing time completing Sports Day! They started off with a 'Superhero race' where they ran as fast as they could to the finish line. Race 2 involved a quoit balancing on their heads. Race 3 was a throwing competition. Everyone needed to take cover for this one! the final race (which is my favourite) was the egg and spoon race. The children were fantastic! We ended with the grown ups having a go too! Look at the pictures below.
Spring 1 2024 - Something magical can happen when you read a book...
We based our learning around a different book each week.
Week 1 - Pete the cat stories - we joined in with the repeated refrains and the catchy songs for each of the books. We had a great time mixing different colours with the powder paints to paint our own shoes for Pete and painted our own Pete the cat with colourful buttons.
Week 2 - We're going on a bear hunt - we loved retelling this story and acting it out!
Week 3 - Handa's surprise - We looked at different countries in Africa and compared different envionments to where we live. We also tasted the fruit from the story!
Week 4 - Shark in the park! - These are some of our favourite stories. We made telescopes and shark pictures!
We also celebrated Chinese new year - always one of our favourite weeks.

Spring 2 2024 - People who help us
We love this topic!
We learnt about lots of different occupations and had some fantastic visitors such as a midwife, doctor and dental nurses. We also visited our local fire station and hairdressers/beauty salon.
In between we have enjoyed celebrating Easter and World Book Day, forest school sessions and Reception have had a cooking club. Take a look at the photos to see all the fun we had.
Autumn 1 2023 - Look at me!
Our favourite topic to get to know each other! We have had a great time settling in and learning our rules and routines. We have learnt about ourselves, our bodies, our features, our likes and dislikes and our families. We love exploring our provision inside and outside and we are making lots of friends. We have also learnt all about Autumn and the changes that occur during this time. Our favourite story is 'The leaf thief'.
We have enjoyed a visit from Dave at Skip2bit to practise our dance and skipping skills. We have also had Laura (pupil parent) in to teach us a fantastic dance based on animals in the jungle.
Our forest school sessions have been fun and we love exploring our fantastic woodland areas.
At the end of the half term we enjoyed celebrating Halloween and definitely had a spooctacular time!

Autumn 2 2023 - Let's celebrate!
A very exciting time of year!
We have enjoyed celebrating bonfire night by talking about our experiences, creating art work of bonfires and fireworks and listening to stories.
We also marked Remembrance Day by making our own poppies to wear and watching this beautiful animation to support our understanding of the wars https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/poppies
We have celebrated the Hindu festival Diwali which we know is the festival of light. We made beautiful Diva lamps, firework pictures and Rangoli patterns. We are enjoying practicing our Christmas play 'Shine star, shine!'
A visit from Ian's Mobile Farm May 2023
What a 'farmtastic' day we had! The children loved meeting all the animals and were so excited! Ian told them lots of information about them and how to care for them. Meg the sheepdog was a special favourite!
In the afternoon, the children took part in a carousel of 6 activities around the farm theme. They made sheep biscuits, collected eggs from the chicken coop, made their own chicken paper plates, 'milked' cows, took part in welly wanging and apple bobbing and hunted for vegetables on the grass.
The children enjoyed eating their lunch outside like a picnic and finished the day with an ice cream treat from the ice cream van!
Spring 2 2023 - Under the sea!
Look at our wonderful under the sea display! We have loved learning about the layers of the ocean and lots of facts about the different sea creatures. We have read lots of fiction and non-fiction books and particularly enjoyed learning how to keep our oceans clean and safe by recycling and getting rid of our rubbish properly.
Autumn 1 2022 - I am special, I am me!
Autumn 1!
This half term is always busy! We are settling in well and learning all the rules and routines of our wonderful classroom. The children are practising lots of skills such as listening, tidying up, sharing and turn-taking.
Our topic is 'I am special, I am me!'
We have painted self-portraits, looking carefully at what makes us unique such as our eye colour and hair colour. We have also made some lovely family pictures and enjoyed talking with our friends about who is in our family.
We are also learning all about autumn and the changes that occur during this season. We are enjoying collecting yellow, brown, red and orange leaves and finding conkers and acorns. We are learning about what some of the animals do in the autumn such as squirrels, hedgehogs and geese. We are reading autumn stories and learning some lovely autumn songs. Summer 2 2023 - Once upon a time...
Traditional tales! The children learntsome very popular traditional tales, retelold the stories, performed puppet shows, made story maps, attended Burnley Road theatre and they created some wonderful art work.
Summer 1 2023 - Everybody out!
Spring time, Easter, life cycles of animals and plants, exploring the natural world, minibeasts, planting and caring for our outdoor area.
We also celebrated the Coronation of King Charles!

Spring 1 2023 - Happy and healthy!
This half term our topic is 'Happy and Healthy'. We will be looking at lots of different things that we can do to keep ourselves healthy including our diet, personal hygiene nad exercise. We will use some brilliant 'mixed up fairytales' to support our understanding. These include 'Eat your greens, Goldilocks', 'Give us a smile, Cinderella', 'Stinky Jack and the beanstalk', 'Keep running Gingerbread Man', 'Rapunzel, Rapunzel, wash your hair!' and 'Blow your nose, Big Bad Wolf.' We will also be thinking about how we can keep ourselves and others around us happy.
We are celebrating Chinese New Year too! This year it is the year of the rabbit! We will make our own rabbit hand puppets, Chinese lanterns and practise some Chinese writing. We will also taste some Chinese food and enjoy learning all about the celebrations, including the dragon parade!
Autumn 2 2022 - What a wonderful world!
This is one of our favourite topics! This half term we will look at a globe and explore different parts of our wonderful world! We will begin with England and then move onto hot, dry, cold and wet climates e.g. deserts, rainforests and Arctic/Antarctica. During this topic we will look at similarities and differences in weather, homes, animals and much more.
We loved exploring the changes that occur during Autumn and made a lovely display with 'leaf owls', Autumn trees, squirrels and hedgehogs.
